About Canine Generated Independence.

Canine Generated Indepence (C.G.I) are an incorporated association of assistance dog owners and handlers, supporting each other to owner train and work their assistance dogs.

The idea is that owner trainers instead of standing alone can be seen as one group of people with dogs trained to a high standard that are widely accepted by the public and easy for them to identify.

The world of owner training can seem a lonely place, CGI aims to help owner trainers be seen by wearing one logo and in a way the public can be confident that our dogs are well trained.

No, we are not providers of assistance dogs. We are a way to advocate Owner Trained Assistance Dogs and to be seen as a recognisable organisation that has public respect and will be recognised by others.

CGI can help people within the UK wanting to and able to train or have already trained their own assistance dogs, providing they have a disability.

Yes.  We are covered by the Equality Act 2010.

We ask that you log a minimum of 120 hours of training including 20 hours of public access training.  As a member of the IAADP we follow their public access test to ensure all our dogs are of an acceptable standard.

Dogs are accepted based on their temperament and ability to do what their handler requires. Illegal breeds are not accepted.

Our dogs are easily identifiable as assistance dogs by wearing a purple coat or a bandana with our logo.
