About Dorset Marine Training

Along with my partner Dom, I run Dorset Marine Training.  Based in the beautiful Poole Harbour we teach people to drive boats, sometimes on our boats, sometimes on clients own boats.  Most of our clients are leisure users who are either looking to buy a boat or hire boats in the UK or abroad on holiday and who either need a formal qualification or confidence at the wheel.  We also teach people who are looking to work in the industry and meet lots of potential superyacht crew at the first stage of their journeys.  The majority of teaching is on boats under 10m but we do work on larger motor cruisers too and use a 47ft boat for our motor cruising training.  Alongside the practical courses we offer a wide range of boating theory courses.

We teach everyone from beginners to Yachtmaster and offer training from half day taster sessions through to full 10 day courses.  Our most popular course is a two day Start Powerboating Course. We focus on teaching small groups so we tend to teach under the max permitted ratio and most of our courses we run for just two people so grab a friend or family member and come and spend a couple of days afloat with us - no prior knowledge needed!

Gift vouchers also available, makes a great present for the 'tricky to buy for' person in your life!

Dom and I pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable so even if you've never been afloat before and just want to make a tentative enquiry please do contact us.  We do almost all the teaching ourselves so you'll find its a very tailored approach for your group.

Huge thanks to the organisers of The Royal Connection.  Since setting up our own business the need for support between business owners has become so apparent and ourselves have noted how much more we spend with independents getting a personal touch rather than the big chains.
